If you're the one marketer in a fifteen-person company, that's worth knowing before this quarter's big push on answer engine optimisation.
Can you guarantee a citation in an AI answer? Our founder James Gayle says no.
“There is no button you can tick.” His advice is to start with your people's own profiles.

Can you guarantee a citation in an AI answer?
If you're the one marketer in a fifteen-person company, that's worth knowing before this quarter's big push on answer engine optimisation.
Start with your people
Gemini takes into account basically every part of your digital presence to work out whether you're a trustworthy source. That's the personal brands inside your organisation, LinkedIn especially, before it gets to your company pages.

Can you guarantee a citation in an AI answer?
No single tactic guarantees it. AI engines weigh your whole digital presence, from your people's profiles to the pages on your site.

- How do I get my firm cited by AI search? Not yet
Hi {{first_name}},
There's no button that guarantees you an AI citation.
If the plan this quarter is to get your content showing up inside AI answers, start here: there's very little a marketer can do to guarantee a citation. Google's AI engines, Gemini specifically, take into account basically every part of your digital presence to figure out whether you're a trustworthy source.
That's the personal brands inside your organisation, LinkedIn especially. Then it pulls in your company pages and the content sitting on them.
{{first_name}}Merge fields stay in place, so you can copy it straight into Mailchimp, HubSpot or whatever you send from.
Speaking at an event? Quotem reads the event page and frames the pieces as before or after it.
Examples built from our founder's own recorded answers. Also available: X posts, pull quotes and captions, and you can bring in what you already have: YouTube links, audio and video files, transcripts, PDFs, Word documents and slide decks.
Five steps. Your experts only do one of them.
Your marketing team plans, asks and approves. Your experts talk for a few minutes. Quotem does the writing, design and editing in between.
Start from a plan
Every Monday Quotem suggests five things to make, drawn from your topics, the news and what people search for. Plan one and you get the angle, the audience and the questions worth asking.
Done by your marketing team
Make these this week
Five suggestions, ready to record or plan.
Send one link
Pick the person, check the questions Quotem drafted and say what you want made. They get an email with everything they need, and you see when they open it.

2. What should a team of one do first instead?
Your expert talks
They see who is asking and what it's for, agree to how their words will be used, then answer out loud in the browser on their phone, tablet or laptop. Audio or video, up to ten minutes an answer.
The only step your expert does
Marketing at Quotem is asking
Can a marketer guarantee a citation in an AI answer?
Before you start, you see exactly how your words will be used.
A named person approves anything before it's published.
You can withdraw at any time.
Start recordingThe right people sign off
Quotem writes each piece in the expert's voice and checks every line against the recording. You send it to the people who need to approve it, and they approve the exact wording from a link.
Your team and your named approvers
Who signs off this wording?
The expert, his wordsApproved
Final say for the firmWaiting
James Gayle approved this wording. An approval covers these exact words. If anyone changes them, they need approving again, and every version is kept.
You publish, on your terms
Copy it, download it, or open LinkedIn or X with the post ready to go. You can also send it to the expert to post from their own profile. Quotem never posts anything for you.

A plan for the week, ready every Monday.
Quotem suggests five pieces a week: two your audience will relate to, two that teach, and one that promotes. Each comes with a hook, the reason it should land and three talking points. Record it yourself, or plan it and ask the right expert.
- News on your topics, in your market
- Questions people search for, with monthly volumes
- The videos doing well in your field
- Everything your people have already said
Weekly suggestions come with every plan. News, search and YouTube research come with Team and Agency.
2. Why your people's profiles count as much as your site
3. The one thing to do this quarter
Every Ask says why.The plan travels with the Ask, so months later anyone can see who it was for and what it set out to do.
There are no buttons you can tick to guarantee yourself a citation.
James GayleFounder, Quotem
Your brand on every graphic. Your people in every line.
Quotem reads your colours, fonts and logo from your website or brand guidelines, gives each colour a job and designs every graphic in the look you choose from 19. Change something once on your Brand page and every new graphic follows.
Quotem builds a voice profile for every person from what they've said and written, so a partner's post reads like the partner, and your founder's reads like your founder.
Nothing goes out until a named person approves it.
Quotem keeps the record of what your experts said, who approved it and which version went out. When someone asks where a line came from, you can show them.
Point at a sentence to see where it was said
There is no button you can tick to guarantee your content gets cited in an AI answer. Gemini takes into account basically every part of your digital presence to work out whether you're a source it can trust. That's the personal brands inside your organisation, LinkedIn especially, before it ever gets to your company pages.
Approved by James Gayle, version 1, with its full history
Consent comes first
Before anyone records, they see exactly how their words will be used. They can withdraw at any time, and withdrawn material can't be copied, posted or downloaded.
Approval covers the exact words
Change a word, a credit line or a clip and it needs approving again. Every version and every approver stays with the piece.
Only what they said
A piece never adds a figure, client or quote your expert didn't give. Outside facts are added only when you ask, and they name their source in the sentence.
Named or described
A contributor can choose to be described rather than named, and Quotem won't let a caption name them.
You press publish
Quotem never posts anything itself. Your team decides what goes out, where and when.

Questions we get asked.
Something missing? Email hello@quotem.ai and the founder will answer.
Do our experts need an account?
No. They answer from a link in the browser on any device: phone, tablet or laptop. There is no login and nothing to install.
Does Quotem post for us?
No. You copy or download each piece, or open LinkedIn or X with the post ready, and publish it yourself.
Will it make things up?
Each piece uses only what your expert said. Quotem checks every line against the recording, and outside facts appear only when you ask for them, with the source named in the sentence.
Who approves, and how?
You choose. The expert, a partner, a client: each gets a link and approves the exact wording. Any later change needs approving again.
Where is our data?
Your database and files are hosted in London, and backups in the EU. The AI, transcription and video providers process in the US. The full list is on our subprocessors page.
Can someone withdraw?
Yes, at any time. Withdrawn material stops being usable straight away, and erasure is recorded.
Can we use content we already have?
Yes. Bring in YouTube links, audio and video files up to an hour, transcripts, PDFs, Word documents and slide decks.
What counts as a minute?
A minute of recording or imported audio and video. Each Ask or import counts at least ten minutes, and text counts at about 150 words a minute. Unused minutes carry into the next month only, then expire.
